BAUTISTA, BANAL WIN IN PAYBACK!
Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista of the Philippines won by unanimous decision over tough-as-nails Antonio "Barrio" Meza of Mexico in the well-attended 'Payback' event at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The scores were 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112, all for Bautista who now improved to 24-1-0 (17 KOs). Meza dropped to 23-3-0 (16 KOs).
The duo had torrid toe-to-toe exchanges throughout the fight with Bautista getting the better of most of it. Both fighters were hit by hard punches but refused to go down.
Meanwhile AJ "Bazooka" Banal, considered by many as the world's hottest prospect, continued his march towards the world recognition by dispatching another tough Mexican in Jovanny "Bambino" Soto.
With Banal's all around ring wizardy, he completely dominated Soto throughout the fight timing up Soto with hard uppercuts and crosses early on but the Mexican showed his toughness by refusing to go down.
In the night round however, Banal hit Soto with a devastating cross that sent Soto to the canvas for the mandatory 10-count. Soto was able to beat the count but Banal went for the kill with a barrage of punches that sent Soto reeling in the ropes before the referee stopped the contest for a 9th round TKO victory by Banal.
The Domingo-Mathias fight is still ongoing as of this writing. After the Domingo-Mathias bout, the Melindo vs Amisa will be the last fight of the day that begun around 9 a.m. this morning.
DONAIRE WINS BY 8TH ROUND TKO OVER MALDONADO! (Round by Round Report)
Round 1
Maldonado comes out first to the traditional Mexican music sporting red, white, and green. Donaire comes out clad in red, his corner bearing the Philippine flag proudly. Both fighters visibly put on some weight but look lean and rugged. As per IBO rules, after the 111 lb weigh in on the eve of the fight, both fighters were supposed to stay below 122 lbs at 9 am today. Although both are hard punchers as indicated by their records, Maldonado decides to sport the more cushioned Grant gloves while Donaire chose to don the puncher’s glove Cleto Reyes. True to his word, Donaire came out swinging with a hard left hook to the head to initiate the action. The following minute was followed by a feeling out process from outside mainly with the left jabs and right hands to the head and body of Maldonado.
A blistering counter from Donaire rocks Maldonado. An over-hand right followed by a left upper cut lands for Nonito. Maldonado is clearly having a hard time finding his stride against the super quick Flash.
ROUND 2
Donaire lands a lead right. Another lead right follows followed by a hard left hook showing power from both hands.
Maldonado is already marked on the left side of the his face, blood trickling over the left eye.
Maldonado cannot get his rhythm.
Maldonado is in danger of having the fight called off because of the blood. Maldonado’s face is as red as the Flash’s shorts.
Maldonado’s blood covers Donaire’s chest and face as the bell sounds.
ROUND 3
The last round could have been a 10-8 easily for Donaire. Nonito’s confidence is growing. Maldonado is always two steps behind.
Both sides of Maldonado’s face beginning to look like a beaten pulp.
Maldonado’s corner needs to consider stopping this fight on the stool.
ROUND 4
Maldonado is still game. However, his courage might be his downfall.
Out of desperation, Maldonado switches to south paw. It does not help as Donaire continues to stalk will well placed hooks and straight rights, which are stet up with a pawing jab.
Maldonado lands his best punch of the night and starts to get a little groove. This round might be the confidence builder that Maldonado needs.
The Flash’s pace slows and Maldonado’s picks up. Both land hard but Donaire finishes last with a strong blow to the body.
This has the making of a great fight!
ROUND 5
The proud Mexican battles on from the south paw stance still visibly battered. The bleeding on the left side ceases as Maldonado’s cutman does a great job. However, the right side continues to pour blood from the brow.
A small mark develops under Nonito’s left eye. His left hand is low and he seems to use this round as a breather.
He eats a couple of small soft left straights but counters well with crisp left hooks.
The blood on Maldonado’s face is bad now. The doctor may have to step in soon.
ROUND 6
Maldonado continues to come in head first – either brave or a glutton for punishment. Donaire might have missed his opportunity to capitalize on the cuts and his building momentum. This may be a longer night than expected.
The action slows but not the blood under Maldonado’s right eye. Just when you think Maldonado was going down from a Donaire power shot, Maldonado fights back hard trying to teal the round.
ROUND 7
Maldonado looks like he has Vaseline band aids over his two cuts over his eyes. On the cards, it is a shut out for Donaire but the rugged Mexican is making it harder for the young Donaire than the score cards tell.
Maldonado looks like he is crying blood out of both eyes but Donaire is not closing the show. He is patiently waiting for the opening like a seasoned pro. Both trade hard shots in the neutral corner. Donaire judges his distance with a placed left hand on Maldonado’s forehead and follows hard with bombs dropping Maldonado just as the 10 second warning sounds. Maldonado is saved by the bell.
ROUND 8
The doctor calls a halt as he checks the disfigured Maldonado. He is now standing on pure courage now. He eats a short right for his efforts.
Donarie tries to stop it with a barrage of shots in a neutral corner but the brave Mexican weathers the storm.
Donaire stalks him to the other side of the ring with huge powershots from all angles but Maldonado will not go down. What a chin!
The state inspectors and ringside physicians are scrambling on the outside. The ref is eyeing a stoppage.
The fight is over!
The ref wisely calls for a halt at 1:16 of Round 8, saving a stubborn Maldonado from further damage

RAN Goes Back to School with New Weapons
Of the four classes in RAN, Luakian says the Swordsman class has the most to look forward to with the expanded weapons inventory. "There are so many Swordsman in the game that just by the law of supply and demand, their inventory of weapons is the most expensive in-game," she explains. "The new stock will give them a choice of whether to purchase it outright in-game or rent it from the item shop. Currently, we are only renting out 1-day weapons but, soon, we will be releasing 7-days as well as 15-day weapons."
GM Austere seconded Luakian's assessment, adding that Power-build Swordsmen, in particular, will benefit from the new weapons, which cater specifically to their Spartan build. "I think the Swordsmen benefit the most compared to other classes because Power-build Swordsmen are restricted to POW weapons only, whereas Intelligence or Dexterity Swordsmen can interchange weaponry. Same goes for the other classes. They can all use their class weapons (Staff or Spears for Shamans, Gloves or Gauntlets for Brawlers, Short or Long Bows for Archers) regardless of build (POW, DEX, INT)."
To help showcase the new weapons RAN will be hosting several in-game tournaments and events in the upcoming weeks. "We have the ongoing School Wars pitting the three schools of RAN—Mystic Peak, Phoenix, Sacred Gate—against each other ever Friday night," says Luakian. "Also, this June, we are kicking off the Club Wars every Wednesday and Saturday. This is a club vs. club format (club being the equivalent of clans or guilds in other MMORPGs) where the winning club gets to control the Student Council and can therefore change the tax rate on a given map, not to mention the prestige that comes with being the most dominant club of a school."
RAN is also gearing up for a special GM-made event called Berdugo Royale. According to GM Austere, Royale is unlike any MMORPG event he's seen. "As far as I know, this has never been attempted before. It's basically an event where all the participants will be given negative 5,000 attribute points and they need to maintain a negative attribute of 4,000 otherwise they are disqualified. We also have two servers (Havoc and Strife), and with these attributes, there is no way you can enter a non-PK (player-kill) channel."
The new weapons, he says, will be instrumental to the players' survival during Royale because all the players will be handicapped with a negative quotient regardless of level, essentially putting them "in the red," hence the scarlet-themed title.
"It's a one-week event. The registrant with the highest level or highest experience will be declared the winner," explains Austere. "It's gonna happen on the PK channel where they can be killed by anyone because they're red.
This encourages players to buy the new weapons, especially when we release the 30-day weapons, which cannot be dropped even when you're killed off. The event is a kind of survivor mode. Also, when your attribute points near -4000, you need to kill humans in order to stay in the game and within the required negative cap."
With so many weapons being released, Luakian says RAN's next item rollout, tentatively planned for June, will not be weapon-heavy. "We'll be releasing premium accessories instead, such as baseball caps, hats and maybe even Destiny Boxes, like the Power-Up Box which increases the attack of a character for five minutes, which is very useful during PK time."
The Destiny Boxes originally functioned as wildcard stat amplifiers in the Korean version of RAN Online. What stats were amplified (health, attack speed, damage rate, etc.) would not be revealed to a player until he/she opened the box. To help bolster the game's strategic element and lower the luck factor, the boxes have now been given specific labels, so players will know exactly what box to use and at what time.
And if this new batch of weapons wasn't enough to give Swordsmen the figurative edge on their competition, Austere hints at at least least one new weapon that Swordsmen can look forward to in June. "On our client, the names aren't decided yet but there is a ‘Kitchen Blade' weapon (similar to a butcher's cleaver). This weapon is a POW-type weapon that is gonna be a definite must-have for Swordsmen."
Also in the works is a new, two-part map called simply The Carpark, located inside the Trading Hole area. As its name implies, The Carpark is a sprawling open lot ideal for picking off high-level monsters such as the Skating Master (level 86), the Hodel (level 96) and coldly grotesque Freezing Clowns (level 100). "This is the perfect place for players level 86 and up to level quickly because of its wide-open space," explains Luakian. "Players will have an easier time luring mobs out."
Commercial e-point shopcards are currently on sale at most internet cafes and computer retail shops. The RAN item shop can be accessed at the RAN homepage: www.ranonline.com.ph, complete with full details and price list for the new weapons.

Marquez fails to impress Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines -- It was an impressive title defense for World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez Sunday but it made no impression at all to the man he wanted to impress most.
Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao told Ronnie Nathanielsz of Philboxing.com in a telephone interview that Marquez was “slow and had no real power” minutes after the Mexican retained his crown with a unanimous decision win over Rocky Juarez in Tucson, Arizona.
Marquez, defending his title for the first time after dethroning fellow Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera early in the year, counter-punched his way en route to a 118-110, 117-111, 120-108 victory.
“Kayang kaya ko (I can take him easily),” Pacquiao stressed as he exuded confidence of a victory in a possible rematch with Marquez.
Pacquiao, who was interviewed by Nathanielsz from his house in General Santos City where he watched the fight, also noted that Marquez failed to finish off the smaller Juarez inside the distance despite connecting with solid shots in the latter rounds.
As expected, Marquez wasted no time in challenging Pacquiao, who only last month outclassed Barrera in their rematch.
“I had great preparation for this fight,” Marquez told the media after the fight. “I have worked very hard for four months, and now I want Manny Pacquiao, but he doesn’t want to fight me.”
The WBC had earlier ruled that Marquez should next face Pacquiao in a mandatory showdown should he get past Juarez.
Pacquiao and Marquez fought to a draw in their first fight in 2004 after the Mexican survived three knockdowns in the first round.
The Filipino ring icon said he expects to fight again early next year with his handlers now looking at several prospects.
Pacquiao, who many consider as the world’s best fighter, has been called out left and right by different fighters lately, ranging from featherweights, super featherweights and even the lightweights.
Even former Olympic gold medalist and world champion Joel Casamayor has called out Pacquiao, while some camps have expressed interest in a possible Oscar De La Hoya-Pacquiao showdown.

pLs rEad..
Trouble arrives in measures,
and we stack it up real high,
until we're convinced,
we have no reason to try.
If you feel defeated,
you're absolutely wrong,
for if you follow your dream,
you could never lose for long.
Ignore the minor set-backs
that pile up and trouble you,
or you will build a mountain,
out of the stones hurled at you.
The future holds great promise,
your destiny unknown,
but God is always helping,
and you're never alone.
Soar bravely toward your goal.
Let nothing darken the way.
You can change your tomorrow,
if you seek your dream today.
